Lust Have It! October 2013

Wow, what a busy month.
I actually celebrated my 21st birthday just last week, even though it was nothing big because of the bombardment of assignments and exams.

A few days ago, when I headed out the door (hello uni!)  I actually bumped into the postman.
As usual, he handed me my post and I was so surprised to find it was my Lust Have It! box!
What a refreshing change to the box, I'm a fan!

October 2013's box is a 'Spring Race Carnival Edition'. I'm not heading to the carnival any soon but I'm very curious to see how these products can help one hitting the races.

(swatch: Le Tan Wash Off Instant Looking Tan in Bronze)

1. Le Tan Wash Off Instant Looking Tan in Bronze (40 g)
Unfortunately, I don't use any tanning products but I'll be sure to pass this on to someone who might enjoy it more than I will. Aside from that, I think this is great if you're experimenting with tanning products or just want a temporary fix!

2. INIKA Mineral Eyeshadow in Platinum 12 (Full sized 1.2 g, RRP $25)
Initially, I was quite intimidated by the nature of the eyeshadow - it's one of those loose powder ones. I've actually never used these before but I'm quite excited - it's a lovely sparkly pale silver shade that can easily be an all over body shimmer! I'm loving the fact these can be used on the most sensitive of eyes (perfect for me!); it looks absolutely stunning on the eyelids. I pulled off the seal to get a closer look at the product (that's why it's a bit messy).

3. Paula's Choice Oil Blotting Papers
There's quite a lot of sheets here. Blotting papers are always handy for me especially midday or after a stressful situation! I'm eager to use these to compare them to other brands I've used.

4. evo Ritual Salvation Care Shampoo and Conditioner (50 mL each)
How cute are these bottles! Definitely caught my eye there. I don't have coloured hair but I do have weak, brittle hair which makes these useful.

(swatch: Smitten Whipped Tinted Mousse Moisturiser in Cappuccino)

5. Smitten Whipped Tinted Mousse Moisturiser in Cappuccino
I've never heard of this brand and I'm not sure what the size of this is. It's actually labelled as a foundation and moisturiser, instead of being a 'tinted' moisturiser. The shade is a bit too dark for me so I'll be passing this on to someone else. I love the whipped mousse texture and the matte finish but unfortunately, not the fragrance - not pleasant.

6. Princess Skincare Hyaluronic Acid Mask (Full sized, RRP $25)
This is one expensive mask! Skeptical of the price, I checked this out online and it actually retails more!
Perfect mask for my mum; I'll be sure to pass this onto her as she can really benefit from the reduction of fine lines and boost of firmness and elasticity.

Overall, this box did not disappoint. I liked the contents even though I don't plan on using all of them.
You've got a bit of value, diversity and nothing was deemed 'useless'! My favourite item would have to be the INIKA eyeshadow; so gorgeous and versatile! There's also the inclusion of vouchers to use including one for the tanning spray and for a purchase on The Iconic.

So, what did you think of this month's box? Have you received yours yet?
If you haven't, you can sign up here for their monthly beauty box that retails for $19.95.
You can use the code Herdays to get $5 off your first box!

Have a beautiful day everyone!
And for those tackling assignments, exams and stress (or any hardships), wishing you the best of luck!

(This box was provided for my consideration.)

Review: Montagne Jeunesse Cucumber Peel Off Face Masque

I'm all up for having samples sent my way.
Especially, when it involves a possible total of 90k participants, hopping onto their computers, all within a small time interval. For a moment, we all share this connection (figuratively and literally), one common goal, all of us, together...

On the PINCHme website of course! Snagging the latest released sample on a Tuesday is what I am guilty of! All my hard efforts (please!) has conceived me a chance to try out the Montagne Jeunesse Cucumber Peel Off Face Masque. "Gently peels to deep cleanse pores", umm, yes please!

Cleanse, cleanse, cleanse prior to using this product!
Once applied on my skin, alarm bells started ringing.
This product reeked of a strong nasty concoction, made by your chemistry professor (Sir, did you add in ethanol?). Where is the smell of cucumbers?! Also, I really hated the consistency of this product. (Insert characteristics of slime, e.g. sticky).

(the slime)

If you have sensitive skin, this product certainly tests your limits; how far you can withstand that nasty stinging sensation upon application. I do admit my perturbed cries accompanied this process. Surpass that stinging phase and you're onto the next round, phew!

Again, I was put under another test. How long I can withstand not being able to move my facial muscles. The masque constricted and immobilised my face. Montagne Jeunesse, are you trying to be sadistic here?

After enduring such arduous tests (torture you may call it), you can expect a reward at the finish line. I played the waiting game and once dry proceeded onto the next step. Oh the grotesque enjoyment I had peeling this off my face. Not at all painful, and kind of refreshing.

What an experience. This is certainly the first time I've used these sort of masks.
I don't think this product cleansed my pores effectively. The only "positive" attribute of this product was the novelty of peeling this off my face. Oh and it's vegan friendly.

I don't recommend this product to those with sensitive skin because of the stinging sensation you may experience. On the positive note, I didn't experience any inflammation or any other skin symptoms. Unfortunately, the negatives associated with this masque outweighed the positives. I don't think I'll be seeing you soon Montagne Jeunesse!

So, have you tried the masques from Montagne Jeunesse? How was your experience?
Let me know in the comments section below. I hope you enjoyed this review!

Have a beautiful day!

Review: My Beauty Diary Arbutin Whitening Mask

I've been encountering a few of those days where my skin is best described as dull and fatigued.
Such lackluster complexion can be attributed to numerous factors such as poor diet, lack of sleep and stress. During this time, I yearn for a much brighter complexion, where my skin can easily exhibit a façade of good health.

Fortunately, the timing couldn't have been more perfect for me to use the My Beauty Diary Arbutin Whitening masks.

I believe you can purchase a single sachet or a box of 10 sachets (1 mask per sachet). I chose to purchase a box (more value for money) at sasa.com.

(Back of the box. If anyone can read this, great! This will provide you with a bit more information)

This Taiwanese product claims to be rich in Arbutin, an effective whitening and anti-ageing ingredient.
Arbutin "penetrates deep into the skin and effectively inhibits the formation of melanin, dark spots and freckles, leaving you a bright skin tone with high translucency. It also removes melanin deep under your skin to whiten your skin" (product information at sasa.com).

I'm really interested in the "melanin removal" claim, due to the nature of my skin which easily tans.
I'm also blessed to be the unlucky recipient of dark spots and freckles, the consequence of prolonged exposure to the sun. Considering these claims and how this product is said to be suitable for all skin types, I was quite excited to use this product.

Each sachet contains a cotton like mask saturated with 23 mL of essence. Distinctly, this mask will not cater for all faces as we all have different facial structures and features. The main problems I can observe is involved with the positioning of the eyes and the lips. The cut out feature for the lips is merely a rectangular slot. Evidently, I made slight alterations to my mask to accommodate my face.

Application time can vary but I left my mask on for 30 minutes. Upon application, I experienced a pleasant cooling sensation which is really soothing and calming after a busy day. I can still perform productive tasks with the mask on, like doing some work on my computer.

Taking the mask off, there is a lot of left over essence which you can reapply to the face or dispose of. The results of the mask is immediate; my face was profoundly bright and moisturised, which was quite overwhelming. However, apologies to burst anyone's bubbles of interest, the brightening effect is only temporary. Additionally, I did not notice any improvements in my dark spots after multiple uses.

Another disappointing attribute of this product is the sticky residue left on one's face, after the removal of the mask.

Aside from the immediate but temporary brightening effects, these mask are great for that extra boost of hydration!

I will not be repurchasing these masks but I do recommend it to those seeking a brighter complexion before a big event.

Thanks for tuning into this review post.
I hope you enjoyed it.
