CoverGirl Nail Polish Haul!

Earlier this week, I made an appointment at the Genius Bar (Apple store, Broadway) to have the back of my iPhone replaced. Having finished my exams a bit earlier than expected, I visited Kmart, with only an hour to kill before my appointment.

Instead of heading straight to the cosmetics section, I had a browse around the store.
I couldn't find anything to my taste so I finally headed to the cosmetics section. I loved how Kmart revamped the cosmetics section. A lot of the products are now in cardboard packaging; a great security measure and it makes identification of products much easier!

CoverGirl's cosmetics are currently discounted by $5 until the 20th (Sunday). To be honest, I wasn't really interested in purchasing any of their cosmetics, but I do remember that I loved their Outlast Stay Brilliant nail polishes.

I wasn't sure if the nail polishes were under the classification of "cosmetics" but luckily they were discounted as well! Who can say no to great quality nail polishes for only $1.75?! Not bad of a bargain, I'd say.

(nail polish haulage)

From left to right:

300 vio-last

165 ticked pink

023 golden opportunity

285 mint mojito

290 constant carribbean

I'm so glad I had the opportunity to pick these up!
Even though they're quite summer shades, I can't wait to try them out.
I'm not sure if this offer (deal on the nail polishes) is applicable to other stores or if it was originally applicable to the nail polishes only.

If anyone scored a similar deal, please let me know!

Guilty Haul 2014

I've recently had the displeasure of being belted tightly on a raging roller-coaster!
If you've been following my blog, you would've noticed my absence/neglect with the regular updates and posts. Sincerest apologies for that!
I've been juggling, uni, work, social events and of course a good night's sleep!
Additionally, I've recently lost someone very dear to me and just needed some time off (currently on the road to recovery!). It's great to be back blogging away and catching up on blog posts in my feed.

Today's post reflects on my failure to adhere to the guidelines I've set out (previous Project Pan). The Project Pan/spending ban has finished now and due to the crazy schedule I've had, I didn't have the time to produce a post on that. Expect one soon (hopefully!).

I am aware that I've fallen into the trap of purchasing a few bits and pieces along the way. Yes, I'm still unresistant to the sales beckoning me in, and of course the notion of "oh, I need that!". Behold, this is my guilty haul (unveiled during the Project Pan period).

The haul contents were purchased at Priceline and Target.

Priceline

I have no reason to be here other than I wanted to check out some new beauty products (not a good idea!). I ended leaving the store with the following:

Beauty Essentials Nail Polish Remover (conditioning)
I think these were on sale; you can't go wrong with stocking up on nail polish!

Physician's Formula Happy Booster Glow & Mood Boosting Blush in Natural
I definitely do not need any more blushes in my collection, but naturally, I was drawn by those cute love hearts and pink packaging! Super happy that I purchased this for more than half price. I've tried it out and I love how I don't even need a mirror to apply this on - you can't go wrong with this shade!

Essence Metal Glam Eyeshadow in 03 frosted apple
I just love the colour of this shadow. A bit out of my comfort zone but I'm quite interested in experimenting with shades other than neutrals.

Essence 3D Eyeshadow in 02 irresistible purr-ple
Again, something out of my comfort zone. When I saw this in person, I was just overwhelmed how gorgeous it looked! The name of the shade is quite fitting, I couldn't resist to not purchase it!

Essence Kajal Eye Pencils in 08 Teddy and 23 Love Me Lavender
At under $2 a pop in an array of gorgeous shades, I couldn't pass up.

Target

I needed to pick up an under eye concealer that suited my skin tone and has a bit more coverage (didn't conflict with the rules of the ban I think...). I settled on Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Dark Circles Eraser in Medium earlier and found out that it was on sale at Target yay! Unfortunately or fortunately, Chi Chi was also on sale; I've always been curious in their eyeshadow palettes (reminiscent of the Urban Decay Naked palettes) so I decided to pick up their Bases palette because the shades look simply lovely, plus it's something I'll get a lot of use out of. "Ok, time to remove myself from the beauty section", I thought after picking up what I wanted. But sadly, you know how the rest of the story unfolds and my eyes quickly spotted the Chi Chi Social Butterfly Gift Set on special for under $5?! Let me repeat myself, "for under $5!". I loved the idea of a phone case inspired eyeshadow palette and the included phone cases, sporting the Chi Chi brand. Even though I'm not a fan of the iPhone 5 case with the colourful zebra print, the price I paid for the eye palette was a pretty good deal! Additionally, I can use the iPhone 4 case - what a cute nail polish pattern! Don't you agree this set is quite similar to Too Faced's Jingle All the Way Makeup Palette?!

And that concludes my guilty haul.
I hope you've enjoyed this post!
This haul is a perfect example that I cannot exercise inner control at times.
I admit, that there has been a subsequent haul to this one... I'll keep you posted on that one soon.

Have a beautiful day everyone!

January 2014 Empties!

I recognise that the timing of this post is very late; honestly, I found January to be a very jam-packed month of social outings, running errands and baking up of disasters. It's no surprise that when I accumulated all of my 'empties' that I noticed that a majority of them are skincare. Stress and external environmental changes can affect my skin immensely; it's a good thing I took care of my skin well, consequently, achieving this array of empties.

(main empties)

1. Yes To Carrots C The Body Carrot Rich Moisturising Body Scrub
Overall, I really enjoyed this scrub; the light scent, the gentle exfoliation it provides and how it is suitable for those with sensitive skin. However, it's not an amazing body scrub which will prompt me to repurchase it.

2. Biorè Skin Preservation Hard Day's Night Overnight Moisturiser
I cannot find any fault with this moisturiser; despite the consistency being quite dense and thicker than other moisturisers, my skin drinks it up quite easily. Perfect for the cooler months!

3. Biorè UV Perfect Face Milk Sunscreen (SPF 50+)
Sunscreen is a must-have skin care product for me during the summer months. I love this sunscreen because it makes a great velvety-matte base with the added protection of SPF, unlike other sunscreens which I find to be a bit greasy.

4. Almay Moisturizing Eye Makeup Removal Pads
I found this to be very greasy, not something I want to be using in my eye area. The performance in removing eye makeup was pretty average, though I found the pads to remove my face makeup quite effectively.

5. CoverGirl Exact Eyelights Mascara in Black Pearl
I purchased this on a whim after being in need of a decent mascara. The product claims to enhance the colour of your eyes with the pigments of the mascara. Overall, the mascara was a bit of a let down; there were some silvery pigments within but it didn't do much for my eyes. A average mascara for a natural look at best.

6. Nghia O'Beauty Clear Base/Top Coat Nail Polish
My mum picked up this nail polish for me in Vietnam. She told me that Nghia is famous Vietnamese brand that makes great quality cuticle nippers. The polish I finished up was a great base and top coat but it got very sticky to the near end of usage. I will certainly be repurchasing this base/top coat if I ever return to Vietnam.

7. Sukin Certified Organic Rose Hip Oil
Rose Hip oil has become a skin care necessity for me since my discovery of its benefits, a few years back. This is possibly my third or fourth bottle of this golden-amber goodness.

(samples)

8. Benefit Stay Don't Stray Concealer & Eyeshadow Primer
An alright primer - wasn't amazing; there are certainly better and cheaper alternatives on the market.

9. Benefit the POREfessional Agent Zero Shine Powder
The sample I received lasted me quite a few days, giving me adequate time to trial the product.
Despite being a 'POREfessional' product, it did nothing for my pores. This powder works very similarly to my Australis Ready Set Go Finishing Powder, so I'll probably give it a miss and stick to the latter.

10. Dermalogica Active Moist Moisturiser
I really liked this moisturiser (targeted for combination skin) but wasn't a fan of the scent so I won't be revisiting this one.

11. By Terry Baume (balm) de Rose Jar  (SPF 15)
Wow, this was such a lovely sample. I loved how luxurious the product felt when applying it on my lips. Not to mention that beautiful rose scent! Certainly the most expensive lip balm I've encountered to date.

(throwing out)

I'm surprised I have products to throw out when I haven't actually finished using them.
I prefer to play around with a product that's not performing to my expectation, in an attempt to find another suitable use for it. Unfortunately, I'm done with the above products.

12. EOS Lip Balm in Summer Fruit
I purchased this off an Aussie seller on eBay and starting to doubt this is a genuine product. I'm surprised there exists fakes out there. Initially I enjoyed the scent but time finally revealed to me that this lip balm wasn't that great overall. The consistency is a bit thick and waxy for my liking.

11. Natio Tinted Moisturiser (SPF 20)
Once upon a time, I was obsessed with tinted moisturisers because they provided great hydration and a great tint for my face = healthy natural looking skin. Unfortunately, with this tinted moisturiser, I couldn't bear the scent (is it off?), but in terms of performance, it was what I expected from a tinted moisturiser.

And that concludes my January 2014 empties.
I hope I don't ever occupy myself in too many things that would bring me to post something like this, this late! February 2014 empties would be up soon (hopefully!), I'm juggling another semester of university, woo!

Spending Ban/Project Pan 2014 Update #1

This is my first update for the Spending Ban/Project Pan I've started back in mid January.

I had this mindset prepared to achieve a successful outcome but I've come to realise that it's very difficult to hit pan on anything. I didn't select certain products that I wished to use up, nor segregate anything for usage during Project Pan. I've been using a bit of everything from my collection - I don't like to stick to one product only as I dislike repetitive routines and enjoy random selections and variation. Maybe I should allocate myself to certain products only, perhaps starting from next month.

Surprisingly, I found it easier to neglect my enthusiasm for the release of new products. However, the sales have been very tempting. Guilty as charged, I finally caved in and purchased myself a few items I couldn't say no to! Don't even start with me about the justification for purchasing these products; I'll have a detailed post about my "guilty haul" soon enough. I'm disappointed with myself but hey, I got myself some very good deals! (trying to make light of the situation haha).

(guilty haul)

In an attempt to assess the amount of makeup I have, I've reorganised my collection and discovered some new favourites (hello old friend!).

Honestly, I think I need another spending pan/Project Pan once this one finishes. There's this satisfaction involved with finishing up a beauty product, that I rarely achieve. Being fairly new to the beauty world and acquiring a lot of products at an exponential rate, I have never hit pan on any product before.

This Spending Ban/Project Pan ends on the 1st April 2014.

FOTD: 2014 Summer Valentine

I hope everyone had a great day yesterday, filled with the love from family and friends!

For Valentine's Day this year, I decided to create a makeup look that utilises a majority of drugstore products. Dissatisfied with the number of Valentine's Day makeup tutorials I've encountered that encompassed a pink theme, I had a play around with my makeup collection. I wanted a look that promotes healthy radiance, simplicity and wearable for younger beauty enthusiasts. Additionally, this combo is suitable for a natural and effortless everyday look.

I've recently discovered some new readers of my blog who aren't familiar with the basics of makeup, so this one's for you! Furthermore, I'd like to share with you how I put it all together, ready to face the day.

(I recommend getting a goodnight's sleep for this look! haha)

Face
I applied the Garnier BB Cream Miracle Skin Perfector (Combination to Oily Skin) in Light on random areas on my face with my fingers. I then used my Real Techniques Buffing Brush from the Core Collection to blend the BB cream into my skin. I found that the BB cream's finish was dewy so I omitted a highlighter in this look.
To conceal my dark circles, I used the Benefit fakeup concealer in Medium, patting the product in gently with my fingers.
I dusted the Australis Ready Set Go Finishing Powder in True Translucent all over my face with my Real Techniques Powder Brush, to mattify and set my base.
For a romantic flush of colour, I applied the Essence Silky Touch blush in 20 Babydoll with my Real Techniques Blush Brush.

Eyes
I like to start my eyebrows off first; I combed the Essence Lash & Brow Gel Mascara in, to make my eyebrows more defined and in place. This is a great staple, a transparent gel mascara that is very natural looking on the brows.
For my eyelid primer, I used the Makeup Academy (MUA) Pro-Base Eye Primer. I was actually surprised at how well this product worked considering it is very inexpensive. For my eyeshadow base, I used the EcoTools Large Eye Brush from the Essential Eye Set to apply the lighter, "3D" shade from the Essence 3D Eyeshadow in 09 Irresistible Chocolates. I then blended the Benefit Hoola bronzing powder  into my crease with the Emily 217 Blending Brush (purchased from eBay), for a nice transition colour and added definition. For a bit of a highlight under my brows and inner eye corners, I used the same light shade from the Essence 3D Eyeshadow in 09 Irresistible Chocolates in conjunction with the EcoTools Highlighting Brush from the Essential Eye Set.
For long luscious lashes, I curled mine with the Shu Uemura Eyelash Curler and applied two coats of the Australis Lash Length Extensions Mascara, a smudge-free fibre mascara that promotes elongated lashes!

To finish off the look, I opted for soft red lips that aren't too dramatic using the Face of Australia Glossy Lip Crayon in Apple Crumble. These are the new limited edition lip crayons on the market; affordable (only $4.95) and reliable products, infused with a vanilla scent.

All of the Real Techniques and EcoTools brushes were purchased off iherb.comYou can use the code PCW095 to get $5 off your first order under $40 or $10 off your first order over $40.

I hope you enjoyed this post! If you would like future FOTD posts composed in a similar nature to this one, do let me know in the comments below!
So tell me, how do you do your "special occasion" makeup?

Let's Be Frank

I'm going to be unclose and personal with you.

I think you need to "Get naked. Get Dirty. Get Rough. Get Clean" and most importantly, have a good time! Life's too short to be worrisome about your unflattering bits.

Need some assistance? No worries, bring in my new acquaintance, Frank (say hi!).

(coconut & grape seed variant - green label)

Summer's partially about flaunting those sexy bikini bods, one has been strategically working on for months. I may not have the ideal physique but I'm one step closer to summer-ready skin thanks to this Frank Body coffee scrub.

Currently there are two variants of the coffee scrub available on the Frank Body website (frankbody.com), original ($14.95/200g bag) and the coconut & grapeseed ($17.95/200g bag).
The packaging is a resealable, paper bag.

I purchased the coconut & grape seed variant, which claims to
- target cellulite, stretch marks, psoriasis, varicose veins, eczema and acne with roasted, ground arabica coffee beans
- moisturise, tone and repair the skin with grape seed oil
- hydrate the skin and tend to imperfections with coconut oil
- gently smooth lumps and bumps with coconut flakes, brown sugar, jojoba beads and sea salt
- work wonders from the outside in with the added vitamins and minerals.

A lot of claims said, I was very excited to try the product out.

The product is a dry type of scrub; I used two fistfuls of the product (for entire body). Fresh from the shower and while in it, I massaged the scrub in circular motions, concentrating on the problem areas. For coffee lovers, the scent will send you in pure bliss; I admit, on the days I use Frank, my showers have been much more enjoyable (indulging in that lovely coffee aroma!). It is recommended to leave the scrub on to dry for 5-10 minutes.

After washing the scrub off, my skin felt so soft, smooth and well exfoliated, a feeling I've never encountered before. Believe me, I've had my fair share of body scrubs. Since I have combination skin, I used a body wash after to remove the excess oil (as recommended for combo-oily skin types). In the instance of not using a body wash, there will be a slight oily finish to the skin and a lingering scent of coffee (yum!).

I do believe using Frank on a weekly basis yielded improvements in the texture and appearance of my skin. The whole experience is personally pure luxury.
I highly recommend this product for those who seek a great moisturising and exfoliating body scrub, additionally, those who seek an experience like no other!

Aussie residents can purchase Frank Body scrubs from the website and get free shipping to their door!

So what are you waiting for?
Get naked.
Get dirty.
Get rough.
Get clean.

January 2014 Collective Haul!

It's a bit ironic how I'm constructing today's feature on last month's haul after I posted up my announcement of a spending ban/Project Pan.

Call it good timing or anything of a similar nature, but I can assure you, these products were acquired before I decided to adhere to the ban. I realised that it was just so abrupt that I had purchased so many products then threw in a spending ban to conclude the month. It came quite as a shock that I had hauled a bit too much. On a positive outlook, I've started the new year with new products to play with.

Priceline Haul

From the skincare sale:

My boyfriend has been one of those types of guys that don't take care of their skin as well as they should. Water alone does not suffice! Taking advantage of the sale, I decided to set him up with a much needed basic skincare routine with a few added bonuses.

Nivea For Men Cool Kick Shower Gel (500mL)

Nivea Men Anti-Irritation Shaving Gel

L'Oréal Men Expert Hydra Energetic Deep Exfoliating Charcoal Scrub (100mL)

L'OrĂ©al Men Expert Hydra Energetic Skin Awakening Icy Cleansing Gel

L'OrĂ©al Men Expert Hydra Energetic Daily Moisturising Lotion (SPF 15) (50mL)

I needed to stock up on a few cleansers and shower lotions; I found the timing of this sale to be very convenient.

Garnier Pure Deep Clean cream wash

La Roche-Posay Effaclar Duo
This is my second repurchase although the product didn't do wonders for me, I somewhat feel that I need to have this in my skincare routine.

Hiruscar Scar Treatment Gel
I have quite a number of scars I've acquired through pimples, mosquito bites and cuts that I would love to eradicate. I've already started trailing this product and so far the results quite positive. I'll have a review up on this gel soon.

La Roche-Posay Sensi White Foaming Cream
Another cleanser I picked up. This one is much different to the other ones, as it is targeted for sensitive Asian skin. I have a yellowish complexion and some uneven skin tone; definitely excited to try this out!

Lux Magical Spell Fine Fragrance Body Wash
I can imagine using this before bed and easily winding down after a stressful day. The fragrance is not one I gravitate towards to, but it does smell pleasant (I like to smell good before I sleep!).

Clearasil Daily Clear Vitamins & Extracts Daily Wash
I tried a sample of it and enjoyed using it. I had a nostalgic moment when I purchased this, as Clearasil was my first cleanser (back in my junior years).

Lux Shea Scrub Exfoliating Body Wash
This smells divine, need I say more?

Nivea In-Shower Body Lotion Skin Conditioner
A repurchase. I hardly moisturise in Summer, reasons being I'm lazy and I don't find it necessary compared to the cooler months. Enter this innovative skin care product to take care of my habits.

Lux Luminous Touch Luminosity Body Wash

I believe Nivea's lip balms were also on promotion during the skincare sale so I picked up some new balms to try.

Nivea Soft Rose Lip Balm
I love rose products so I had to pick this up!

Nivea Fruity Shine Lip Balm in Pink Guava
I've seen a blogger mention this product before and loved the swatches she provided.

From a random trip to Priceline:

Essence Lash & Brow Gel Mascara (9mL)
I first heard about this product through Candice from YouReview. Intrigued and realising I don't use anything for my eyebrows, I picked this up with hopes to tame it a bit and perhaps inject some 'definition' in them.

Face of Australia Glossy Lip Crayon in Berry Brulee (3.8g)
I wasn't in the mindset to pick up any of these, but in store, this shade was just simply gorgeous berry-purple that I couldn't resist.

Essence XXXL Shine Lipgloss in 14 Bubble Babe (5mL)
The triple Xs must mean something right? I had to pick this up after noticing how insanely this gloss is saturated with silver-pink duochrome glitters. Very sparkly!

Essence Ticket To Paradise Shimmer Powder (10g)
This highlighting powder is from the limited trend edition "Ticket To Paradise" released around a similar time to the trend edition "Beauty Beats". I wasn't very interested in anything from the former trend edition but when I saw the highlighter in the flesh, I just had to have it! I love the embossed hibiscus flower detailing and how lovely the product is to use.

BeautyJoint Haul

The products purchased were inspired by sleepandwater's BeautyJoint haul (of course, my admiration for the haul contents).

e.l.f Studio Blush in Pink Passion
I don't have that many cool toned pink blushes and have never ventured into purchasing e.l.f products, so it seemed very plausible that I should purchase this.

Wet n Wild Color Icon Eyeshadow Trio in Silent Treatment
I saw how gorgeous the swatch of the eye lid shade was and had to purchase this!

Wet n Wild Color Icon Eyeshadow Collection in Comfort Zone
This seems like a great neutral palette; the swatches looked great. Another addition I had to have!

Cherry Culture Haul

There was a special on NYX products so I threw a few products in accompanied with products I've wanted to try from different brands.

Milani Baked Blush in 05 Luminoso
I purchased after reading positive reviews. It's also my first Milani product and of its kind (baked blush).

NYX Rouge Cream Blush in Tickled

NYX Rouge Cream Blush in Natural
I picked up these cream blushes after enjoying my first one in Hot Pink that I got from local Target store for more than twice the cost of these.

China Glaze Nail Lacquer in 842 Snow Globe

China Glaze Nail Lacquer in 565 Tantalize Me

China Glaze Nail Lacquer in 557 Up All Night
These are my first China Glaze polishes; I'm very excited to try them out.

NYX Jumbo Eye Pencil in 604 Milk
I've seen this pop up in my eyeshadow tutorials on YouTube. I don't feel this is a necessity but I'm curious to see how this works under my eyeshadows.

NYX Jumbo Eye Pencil in 617 Iced Mocha

Cherry Culture Balm in Chocolate
This was an added bonus for purchasing over $20.

NYX Black Label Lipstick in Hot Pink
I don't have a hot pink lipstick so I'm starting off my first one with NYX (possibly can't go wrong there!)

Benefit Haul

I received an email from benefitcosmetics.com of a sale on discontinued products. And unfortunately, I got lured in, as simple as that.

I purchased two limited edition Christmas sets:

Benefit Love at first shine! Gloss Set
This contains 6 deluxe sized ultra plush lip glosses - a great way to sample Benefit's glosses!

Benefit Show me the love! Set
This comes with a full sized they're Real mascara, Benetint and a deluxe sample sized of the POREfessional. The set costed only a few more dollars than the cost of a full sized Benetint so why not.

The rest of the products were discontinued and on sale for only $10.

Benefit Full Finish Lipstick in Flirt Alert

Benefit Velvet Eyeshadow in Dandy Brandy

Benefit Creaseless Cream Eyeshadow in Sippin' N Dippin'

BeautyBay Purchase

I splurged on Urban Decay & Oz: The Glinda Palette after spotting it on various blogs how gorgeous the swatches were plus it was on sale at beautybay.com (damn those sales!). When it comes to eyeshadows, I'm definitely a more neutral kind of girl, so this palette was my first step out of my comfort zone. I'm surprised that the shades are very wearable!

And that concludes my haul for January! Quite a lot there; I've only used a few and I'm already loving them so far. I hope you've enjoyed this post; I love reading about hauls myself!
If you would like to request an in-depth review of any of the mentioned items, please leave me a comment below!
